I think we all remember where we were when the famous “elevator scene” happened. When brusque axe-slinger, Johanna Mason, introduced herself to Katniss and Peeta by promptly and completely stripping herself of the tree costume her stylist had fashioned. And for a moment we stopped reading, maybe we even read it again, wondering, “Did that just happen?…Oh it happened all right. She just took her clothes off. Okay, this chick is pretty hardcore.” Or something along those lines. Well this unsettling grand entrance also made an impression on Jena Malone, the actress who plays the District 7 Victor in “Catching Fire.”
“For me, it was one of the best introductions to a character that I had ever read,” Malone said. “It was one of my favorite scenes to film because I think I was so nervous about it because it’s so perfect and I wanted it to be absolutely perfect. When we got there, there were all these variables; we were shooting in a real hotel, in a real elevator, there’s only 49 floors, it’s only six seconds to do a full strip tease, there were all these things that weren’t in the script. I was like, ‘How do we do this?’”
Jena decided to cure her apprehension by practicing a speedy disrobing of the costume in her trailer. When it came time to shoot the elevator scene, she was prepared to rip it all off at the drop of a hat.
“By the end of it I was like boom, boom, boom, just ready [to take the costume off], like ‘Let’s just get naked.’ I didn’t even care if the cameras were rolling,” she remembered, laughing. “They’re like ‘No no no, Jena we’re not rolling yet!’”

Here’s a clip of the Hunger Games Training Center for the Quarter Quell.
We had the wonderful opportunity to join other awesome Hunger Games fansites in a phone interview with Sam Claflin (Finnick) and Jena Malone (Johanna) yesterday. Sam and Jena were absolutely the best and so funny! Here’s our interview with Sam and Jena!
How would you both define Finnick and Johanna’s friendship?
Sam: I wouldn’t. [laughs]
Jena: I think it’s beyond friendship and it’s just like family. Like they’ve drawn blood together. They’ve killed together, they’ve been tortured together.
Sam: They’ve been through a lot. There’s only a very few amount of people still alive that have lived through the experiences they’ve witnessed.
Jena: Kinda like military buddies, you know what I mean? They’ve been out in the field together and they’ve witnessed, you know, horrors together and that’s really bonded them forever.
The rest of the interviews after the break!
The young District 7 victor takes glamour to new heights.
Johanna Mason may hail from the lumber district, but this slip of a victor is anything but green. Don’t be swayed by her cinnamon sprinkle of freckles and delicate, doll-like features. She was one of the youngest tributes ever reaped in Hunger Games history and her agility with an axe resonates throughout Panem. Sly. Savage. Sangfroid. These are just a few of the adjectives tossed around to describe Mason, who’s known for disarming her victims by feigning weakness.
